NHS SDE Dataset Application Process

NHS Research SDE datasets are available in Cohort Discovery, but require you go to through a separate approval process by the NHS Research SDE Network.

    Existing Cohort Discovery Access

    All users must first request access to the Cohort Discovery tool via the HDR UK Gateway. Once approved you may request additional access to view NHS SDE Network datasets.

    Complete NHS SDE Registration Form

    From 1st April 2026, all organisations and individuals interested in applying to access health data through the SDE Network must complete the registration process. More information about the registration process can be found here, please follow this link (NHS Research SDE Network Registration Service – NHS England Digital).

  3. NHS Email notification confirming your registration approval

    Submit NHS SDE Registration to HDRUK

  5. 4

    Access Decision

    HDR UK will confirm your registration status directly with the NHS Research SDE Network team.

  6. Email notification once registration is confirmed and access has been enabled to the NHS Research SDE Network datasets
